Ruud Janssen had posted a call for artist to send flower artwork to his brother Jos now in hospital diagnosed with terminal cancer. I know all too well what it is like to languish in a hospital bed for a protracted period of time. The sameness the blandness the pain and constant struggle with living barley enough strength to hang on. No matter how pleasant the staff are one feels a heavy weight of alienation as though the outside world of friends and family have abandoned you. Well here is my small offering of hope a secret note from the outside smuggled in on the postman sure its only mail-art but sometimes that is just enough to get you through the day. Hang in there Jos and when the nurse asks how are you feeling? Fain not grasping her words and cup your hand to your ear. When she comes closer and asks again, reach out and grasp her and reply, With my hands!
